On March 12, InnovateUS, our affiliated program that teaches AI and innovation skills to public sector professionals, held a virtual workshop with Google Labs Editorial Director and writer Steven Johnson on "Learning to Use Google’s AI-Powered Research and Writing Tools in Your Work." The author of 13 best-selling books, Johnson is also the co-creator and host of the Emmy-winning PBS/BBC television series How We Got To Now, and Extra Life.
In this 60-minute video, Johnson introduces NotebookLM, Google's free AI-powered research and writing tool. Johnson explains how NotebookLM's "source-grounding" approach allows users to navigate and explore complex documents or archives of information.
He walks learners through several use cases that demonstrate how to use NotebookLM to capture information and then transform it into different formats, including briefing documents, slide decks, and thematic summaries. Johnson also discussed the pros and cons of "collaborating" with AI research assistants, and gave a preview of new upcoming features of NotebookLM.
